Dark circles

While no one likes to have dark circles since they are associated with fatigue, they are a normal physiological phenomenon, as evidenced by the fact that even children a few months old can often have them. Genetic factors, such as a fair complexion or very thin skin, can, however accentuate dark circles by influencing their colour. This is usually very difficult to correct.

Sometimes, however, dark circles are due to a loss of volume in the subcutaneous tissue, a phenomenon that becomes more pronounced after the age of 40. The dark circles are then created by the shadow effect caused by this hollow. Fortunately, this can be corrected with hyaluronic acid injections in the area of volume loss. The area can also be treated with microneedling and radiofrequency.

Some dark circles are also caused by slackening of the ligaments with a fatty hernia forming large bags under the eyes. In such cases, Clinique D’s dermatologists will be able to tell you whether your dark circles are likely to respond well to treatments they are able to perform in the clinic or whether a surgical approach such as blepharoplasty would be more appropriate.
